I got cold today! 😄
It was 88° and so humid it rained every half hour or so, but I was cool, not perspiring at all. It felt like a miracle, and it all came from a little silver-colored ice machine. Why did I wait so long to get it?
It was due to arrive tomorrow but arrived yesterday. After I got it all unwrapped, I read that I must leave it sitting upright for 24 hours before turning it on. ((Sigh.))
At 11 this morning, I washed all the parts, filled the water reservoir, consulted the instruction booklet, and reviewed the buttons. At 11:20, the 24 hours had finally elapsed, and I turned it on. Its mission was to make enough ice to cool me when I came back from walking my dog.
Out of hunger and a little bit to practice delayed gratification, I stopped at Buen Provecho and consumed avocado toast and iced tea – 16 ounces of iced tea, which had to last through the meal. Sipping at it was only cooling in the concept, not so much in the flesh.
When I arrived home, the ice basket was full of ice. I put it all in my 20-ounce stainless, insulated mug and poured iced tea from the fridge on top of it. It became the coldest beverage I have tasted since I moved here in December last year (2021).
I didn’t bother with restraint. I chugged it. I gulped it down, one big swallow after another, until something miraculous happened. I felt cold in the core of my body. I think that is supposed to be bad for me. Today I simply didn’t care.
I refilled the mug, more ice, more cold tea, stretched out on the futon in front of my fan, and sipped more coldness.
I hadn’t thought I would ever again feel cold in the center of my body. I reveled in it. After that one blast of satisfying chill, I did apply a tad of self-discipline. I sipped instead of guzzling. And until bedtime, I have still been consuming icy cold beverages.
Tomorrow morning perhaps a cup of hot tea may appeal. Today was a rhapsody of ice.
